One-Hit Wonders That Totally Hold Up

It’s impossible for an artist to know how a song will perform on the charts, and it’s just as difficult to know which songs will really stick in the public mind years down the road. Landing just one hit is a major accomplishment, but even among one-hit wonders, the number of songs that people are still listening to and talking about is small.

One-Hit Wonders

The songs that hold up over time do so by tapping into an urge for nostalgia but also by being, well, pretty good songs. (There’s a reason they were hits, after all.)

1.“Tainted Love,” Soft Cell: Originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965, “Tainted Love” got a new lease on life when Soft Cell updated it for the synth generation in 1981. The extended single was a medley with a cover of The Supremes’ “Where Did Our Love Go,” but it was the shortened version that dominated the airwaves and made the U.K. band a hit in the States.

Amy Winehouse – The Name Goes to Club 27, the Fortune to Help Drug Addicts

She died at 27, a young death as she always said she would. Although the media crucifying her after the miserable failure of her last tour attempt, the newspapers were unexpectedly civil about her death.

She simply went to bed and never woke up. Fans suspected her of the worse but it seems she was neither drunk nor drugged when she passed away.

The latest rumors even say that she might have experienced a body failure due to alcohol withdrawal because the rehab period she was going through was too rough.

Amy Winehouse The truth is after July 23rd, Amy simply became a memory – the memory of a troubled girl, with a divine, out of the world voice and a talent that R&B and soul music will not encounter very soon.

She wrote cool songs, sang for millions of pounds, and her rebellious act kept the tabloids in bread year after year.

Amy and European Touring A.K.A Disaster

Do you like “Rehab”? Very few people don’t. The slightly raw voice that made Amy Winehouse famous was certainly the main reason we remember the cool lyrics and the jazz meets blues song.

Without a doubt she is unique, but like so many other wild spirits with life ruined by booze and drugs, she is an accident waiting to happen.

Amy Amy is famous. Compared with Lady Gaga as need for public attention is concerned, the British singer is definitely an example of being famous rather for the scandal than for the amazing talent she used to make a living with.

She may not be a beauty but her beehive hairstyle made quite a furor as a trend. Also her cat eye makeup served as an inspiration.

In spite of being a negative example for the youth, so many young adults have fallen in love with her nonconformist life.

Rihanna And Beyonce – Two Music Divas Under Jay-Z’s Wand

They are successful singers, models and artists. The common thing between them isn’t only the fact they both sing great and make hit after hit.

There is one thing that makes these two very close to each other and it is one man – Jay-Z. The rapper is actually a smart businessman, who can discover the talent in all its forms and shapes.

He is actually the figure that has made famous Beyonce and Rihanna. One can say this isn’t exactly the truth, because Beyonce was already famous, before she has had met Jay-Z, but if you look at her career you can see clearly the traces that her husband left.

The real success for Destiny’s Child singer came after she started a single solo career and this wasn’t without Jay-Z help.

Hot Music Babe Going Gothic On The “Q “Magazine Cover

“Q” Magazine is not only one of the many music magazines in the U. K. but it is also the largest one.

If you are looking at the cover of the February 2010 issue of “Q”, you will see the usual things.  One line topics designed to grab your attention line the sides of the front cover: things like Muse, Midlake and The 10 Best New Acts.

In the center however, there is a beautiful girl in heavy black gothic style makeup.  She is wearing a ring on her pinky that looks like a heavy silver claw and has it touching the tip of her tongue.

Who is she? Her name is Cheryl Cole and she (of course) is a musician.  With not one but 2 singles topping the music charts in the U. K. right now, she should be extremely happy.

Ryan Gosling Making Indie Album

ryan goslingHeartthrob and The Notebook hero Ryan Gosling has announced he is making an album. Is this another case of an actor or actress trying to make it as a singer and failing miserably?

Well it turns out Gosling has been moonlighting as a deejay for awhile now and wants to take another step toward furthering his music career. However don’t worry, he won’t be another ‘wanna-be’.

No, Gosling isn’t going pop instead he is going somewhat indie-alternative.

Ryan and his good friend Zach Shields are planning to release their new album on October 6, 2009. The album will feature collaborations with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir. The Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir is based out of Los Angeles.

Gosling says one of the driving forces behind making the album was to expose people to that alternative and indie type of music that wouldn’t normally be exposed to it or affected by it.

Remember Fiona Apple? Well, She’s Back

Fiona AppleRemember Fiona Apple? If you were anywhere near a radio in the late 90s you most definitely heard all of her hits. “Criminal”, “Shadow Boxer” and “Sleep to Dream” were her three biggest hits from 1997 to 1998. Fiona was awarded the Best New Artist award at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.

Apple is also known for her Best New Artist speech which she mumbled out something resembling the words ‘This world isn’t bullshit and you shouldn’t model your life on what you think we think is cool and what we are wearing and what we are saying’.

Fiona was a symbol of teen angst but more so of feminine angst. She was actually quite shocking and forward-thinking for her age and day. Artists who have somewhat followed in her footsteps should thank her for setting the pace.

Ice Ice Baby In Vegas Vegas, Baby

rob van winkleJust recently Rob Van Winkle – also known as Vanilla Ice Ice Baby, made an appearance in Las Vegas recently over Labor Day weekend.

And, shortly thereafter Van Winkle I mean, Vanilla Ice, made an appearance and performance at New York’s New York’s Rok bar.

At New York’s Rok bar however Vanilla Ice did not sing his anthem which launched him into fame, “Ice Ice Baby” instead he treated his fans to a version of “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Rap” which he recorded for the movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze”.

It’s been 18 years since Vanilla Ice came out with a hit single. Vanilla Ice hit his peak in the early 1990s. After Vanilla Ice came out with ‘To The Extreme’ which featured his hit song “Ice Ice Baby” he tried to change his image against the advice and recommendations of his record label. Vanilla Ice then came out with his album ‘Mind Blowin’.
