The Billboard Music Awards are awards or honors given to music talents by a publication and music popularity chart that covers the music business named Billboard. It started taking place annually since 1989 until it became dormant in 2007. It started again in 2011 and since then this award ceremony has been held in May, every year.

The Billboard Music Award 2014 kicked off last Sunday evening that is 18th of May atthe MGM Grand Garden Arena in one of the most happening places of USA, Las Vegas with stars like Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Jennifer Lopez giving grand performances. This year this show was hosted by Ludacris and was aired live on the channel ABC.

Justine Timberlake was nominated in 11 categories and he won 7 out of these and that includes winning in some of the best categories viz. ‘top artist’, ‘top male artist’ and ‘top Billboard 200 artists’ for his amazing video ‘the 20/20 experience’. Imagine Dragons were also nominated in 12 categories and won 5 awards out of their 12 nominations. Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and T.I won 4 awards each. While Lorde had 12 nominations, Katy Perry had 10 and that included ‘Hot 100 artist’, ‘top artist’ and ‘top female artist’.

Miley Cyrus had 9 nominations including ‘top streaming artist’, ‘Hot 100 artist’, ‘top female artist’ and ‘top artist’ as well. Amongst all the duo/group categories, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had as many as 8 nominations including the top duo/group nomination.

The Icon Award was presented to Jennifer Lopez which actually is a Lifetime’s Achievement Award and is given to an artist for his or her enduring and remarkable contribution to popular music. She is the first woman artist to get this award and becomes the fourth to be given this award. Neil Diamond, Prince and Steve Wonder were the other artists who had won this award before.

The pre show performers were Austin Manhoe and he performed on the popular number ‘mmm yeah’ and Cher Lloyd who performed ‘sirens’. Many artists performed in the main show and some of them were Pitt Bull, Ricky Martin, Katy Perry, Lorde, and Jennifer Lopez to name only a few. The resident DJ was Tiesto.

The producer of this year’s Billboard Music Award was Dick Clark Production and the executive producers were Mike Mahan and Allen Shapiro. The producers were Larry Klein, Barry Adelman and Mark Bracco.
