Carrie Underwood is quite possibly one of the most (if not THE most) popular singer to come out of American Idol since the show’s inception.
Underwood won the reality talent show American Idol in 2004 and many of us remember vividly her rendition of Heart’s “Alone” as she was dressed in all black and had a bit of an 80s hair vibe going on.
Some American Idol fans were shocked when Underwood beat runner-up Bo Bice in the finale of the show but most knew it was coming.
In fact, during auditions American Idol meanie judge Simon Cowell predicted that Carrie Underwood would win the entire competition and sell more records than anyone previously in American Idol history. Cowell was exactly correct on his prediction.
Up until winning American Idol, Underwood competed mainly in local talent shows in her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma. In her free time Underwood was active with her church and attended prayer meetings on Wednesday nights.
Just two years after beating Bo Bice and winning American Idol in 2004, Carrie Underwood became a Grammy-winning superstar even beating out Faith Hill.
Underwood was the first woman since 2001 to be named the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year and that was in 2009. Underwood also won Top New Female Vocalist and Single of the Year for her smash hit “Jesus, Take the Wheel”.
Carrie was the youngest of three daughters growing up in the town of just 3,500.
In 2005 Carrie Underwood joined the ranks of Coldplay front man Chris Martin when she was declared and voted by PETA as the ‘World’s Sexiest Vegetarian’.
Carrie has been the center of attention for her drastic weight loss as well. When she was competing in American Idol in 2004 she was healthy but by no means heavy.
Since winning American Idol and dating celebrities such as Dallas Cowboy, Tony Romo and Chace Crawford of the Gossip Girls show, Underwood has dropped weight drastically and has some people concerned about her nearly too-thin frame.
Ironically Underwood once sang in commercials for Hershey’s chocolate and said the on-set chocolate supply was too much temptation for her will power as she was trying steadfastly to lose some weight.
Underwood’s hits include “Jesus, Take the Wheel”, “Inside Your Heaven”, “Before He Cheats” and meanwhile was able to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. Her Bachelors degree is in mass communications.
