Celebs And Their Battles With Cancer
It seems recently there have been entirely too many deaths due to cancer in Hollywood; the most recent of these cancer deaths being the loss of Patrick Swayze, who suffered pancreatic cancer, who passed in September.
Swayze fought pancreatic cancer long and hard for several years and attributed his courage and years of life after his diagnosis to his soul mate and pillar of strength, his wife of 32 years, Lisa. The nation mourned the loss of Swayze who will be most well known to a generation as the one who said ‘no body puts baby in the corner’.
Farrah Fawcett was a sexual icon of the 1970s and was adored every year since. Just recently in August of 2009 Farrah lost her year-long battle with anal cancer.
Best Dressed Women Today

- Kate Winslet: From frumpy and untrendy to classically stylish. Forget the old Kate Winslet from the 90s who dressed frumpy just after her Titanic days. This new and improved Kate Winslet has been turning heads and turning designers around in awe at her classically stylish ways. Kate dresses to show off her curves, and not hide them. Kate dresses somewhat like Jennifer Lopez but she is much classier about her fashion decisions. Kate has been called ‘utterly elegant’ and fawned over by stylist Freddie Leiba.
- First lady Michelle Obama is the epitome of grace and class. While she doesn’t consider herself a fashionista the first lady certainly carries herself like she is a fashionista. She has developed a signature style by wearing sleeveless sheaths and mixed everything from Gap clothing to Narciso Rodriquez.
Remember Fiona Apple? Well, She’s Back
Remember Fiona Apple? If you were anywhere near a radio in the late 90s you most definitely heard all of her hits. “Criminal”, “Shadow Boxer” and “Sleep to Dream” were her three biggest hits from 1997 to 1998. Fiona was awarded the Best New Artist award at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards.
Apple is also known for her Best New Artist speech which she mumbled out something resembling the words ‘This world isn’t bullshit and you shouldn’t model your life on what you think we think is cool and what we are wearing and what we are saying’.
Fiona was a symbol of teen angst but more so of feminine angst. She was actually quite shocking and forward-thinking for her age and day. Artists who have somewhat followed in her footsteps should thank her for setting the pace.
Gosselin Says She Has Lost Control Of Her Life
Whether you are Team Jon or Team Kate you have an opinion about their thirst for the spotlight and their disregard for privacy once they agreed to be thrown into the public eye with their very popular and very public reality TV show, ‘Jon & Kate Plus Eight’.
Recently at a Cleveland Women’s Show, Kate Gosselin proclaimed she felt she has lost a lot of control and that she didn’t want fans or anyone else gawking.
Some of us find this rather difficult to believe. We find this difficult to believe because Gosselin is as attracted to the media, the cameras and the spotlight as any other celebrity out there. Gosselin also reportedly told the women’s group she wants to go back to her regular life and to being a regular mom.
Really, Kate? After proclaiming she didn’t like her current celebrity status life, Kate Gosselin returned to her hotel in her limo escorted by her handsome and rumored-to-be-her lover bodyguard, Steve Neild.
Desperate Housewives Mrs. McCluskey Suffering From Lung Cancer
Kathryn Joosten may more commonly be known as Mrs. McCluskey on Desperate Housewives or her role as the presidents trusted secretary Mrs. Landingham on The West Wing, but regardless of how you know her, she is a fighter.
Recently diagnosed with lung cancer, the two-time Emmy award winner for her role in Desperate Housewives as feisty neighbor Mrs. McCluskey, plans to do everything in her power to fight the illness.
Joosten fought the illness in 2001 as well so she is no stranger to fighting cancer. While she smoked heavily up until the day she was first diagnosed in 2001, Joosten has not had a cigarette since.
Sources close to the Emmy award winning actress say she is maintaining a positive attitude while sources on the set of Desperate Housewives say Joosten is being as amicable as possible with the cast and crew. Joosten told Desperate Housewives producers to write it into the script if they wanted to, or keep it out if that worked better for them.
Ice Ice Baby In Vegas Vegas, Baby
Just recently Rob Van Winkle – also known as Vanilla Ice Ice Baby, made an appearance in Las Vegas recently over Labor Day weekend.
And, shortly thereafter Van Winkle I mean, Vanilla Ice, made an appearance and performance at New York’s New York’s Rok bar.
At New York’s Rok bar however Vanilla Ice did not sing his anthem which launched him into fame, “Ice Ice Baby” instead he treated his fans to a version of “The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Rap” which he recorded for the movie “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze”.
It’s been 18 years since Vanilla Ice came out with a hit single. Vanilla Ice hit his peak in the early 1990s. After Vanilla Ice came out with ‘To The Extreme’ which featured his hit song “Ice Ice Baby” he tried to change his image against the advice and recommendations of his record label. Vanilla Ice then came out with his album ‘Mind Blowin’.
What In The World Is Going On With Kanye West?
Did you catch the VMA’s last Sunday night? Even if you didn’t catch the live broadcast of the VMAs and you haven’t yet caught one of the 24-hour a day round-the-clock re-airings of the VMAs you have obviously heard of Kanye’s inappropriate and mind-blowing tactics at the 2009 VMAs on Sunday September 13th.
When Taylor Swift was announced the winner of the 2009 MTV VMAs “Best Female Video” for her song and video “You Belong With Me” she didn’t even have a chance to thank anyone much less her fans before rude and crude Kanye bombarded the stage and swiftly took the mike away from Taylor.
Initially crowds were cheering Kanye on most likely due to the fact they had no idea what was going on. Kanye went on to say that Beyonce had the best video of the year for her “All the Single Ladies” song and video.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Giving Up Singing Career For A Full-Time Spot On Melrose Place
It turns out Ashlee Simpson-Wentz may be more passionate about an acting career on the come-back series Melrose Place. Simpson-Wentz admits to never having watched the ‘old’ Melrose Place but is excited for the new series Melrose Place, and intrigued by her character in the new Melrose Place which started Tuesday.
Simpson-Wentz plays Violet who was not a character on the original Melrose Place. Apparently this character has a ‘dark side’ according to Ashlee. Violet grew up in foster homes and because of this she is constantly seeking love and acceptance from those around her. Ashlee says the apartment complex used in the new Melrose Place is a new complex with similarities to the apartment complex in the original Melrose Place.
Simpson-Wentz also says she sincerely hopes the infamous villain from the original series of Melrose Place, Heather Locklear.
